It's September the first. The air is cooler. There is the scent of leaves in the air. The summer is almost over and I love it!
I really do enjoy the summer. I don't have to get up as early to take my kids to school before I go to work. I don't have to hound them to do their homework. We get more opportunity for quality family time. And of course the sunny blue sky days are amazing. But I love the fall.
For me it is a time of new beginnings. A time to forgive myself for what I didn't accomplish before and start again. A time to reassess what is important, to review my goals, and to set new challenges.
I wonder if that is partially why God designed the seasons when He created the earth. So that we would appreciate each season and reflect on what we are thankful for. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 3:1 "For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven".
For me this is a time for planning and praying that God, through Christ, would forgive my sins and shortcomings and direct my steps as I set out again to live for Him in this world. It is now that I think about making sure I am setting aside enough time in my schedule to read the Word of God and pray.
I encourage any of you reading this today to take a few minutes to stop and thank God for His many blessings to you, seek His forgiveness for your sins and commit or recommit yourself to Him, through the Lord Jesus Christ, our only hope of salvation.
Remember in 1 John 1:9 the Bible says, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." That's what I call a fresh start.
